Chennai-based actor and director RJ Balaji does not agree with the treatment of women in director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s blockbuster film Animal. Balaji said he intentionally did not watch the Ranbir Kapoor starrer in theaters as he could not see the audience enjoying such scenes.
Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Tripti Dimri, was slammed by critics for having several misogynistic scenes.

In an interview with IndiaGrits, Balaji said, I know there were a lot of people who told me to look at the movie like a movie and treat it like a craft. But what shocked me was that people were trapped inside the theater watching a man kick a girl and yell abuse at her. I felt bad seeing the audience enjoying the movie. ”

The filmmaker, who is also a radio jockey, criticized the film for potentially influencing young people to treat women poorly.
“I didn’t want to think that this was a normal reaction to a scene like this. I didn’t want to be influenced unconsciously and leave such a scene in the film. Actor (Tirupti Dimri) Apparently there was a scene where he had a woman lick his shoes. I think young people who watch this movie will think it’s okay to do that to a woman.”
‘Animal’ was the highest-grossing film of 2023, grossing around Rs 900 crore worldwide. The film highlighted the emotionally volatile relationship between father and son, played by Ranbir and Anil Kapoor.
