EXCLUSIVE: “Despite being an extreme action film, ‘KILL’ is a love story at the end of the day,” says director Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt : Bollywood News
Film director Nikhil Nagesh Baht kill has been in the news for the past few months due to its success at several international film festivals and the fact that it was produced by two big names, Karan Johar and Guneet Monga Kapoor. The film is a high-octane action film as is evident from the poster featuring debutant Lakshya. However, in an exclusive interview, bollywood hungamaNikhil has revealed that he is much more than that.
“It’s a radical action movie, but it’s made with a lot of heart,” he said. “And the essence of this movie is a love story. It’s an over-the-top action movie, but at the end of the day it’s a love story. It’s also not for the faint of heart. It’s hard to see such extreme behavior coming out of India. I don’t think I’ve ever done that.”
The filmmaker has an interesting backstory for the idea for this film, dating back to his childhood. “I had this story for a long time. The entire film is set on a train. As a child, I used to stay in Pune and study in Patna. So, I used to travel by train a lot. Back then, the journey took 36 to 40 hours. Therefore, this story is based on personal experience. “It was imprinted on us. What we saw in our childhood becomes even more deeply engraved in our minds,” he said.
While sharing how the two producers came on board, Nikhil said that he and Guneet had worked earlier and always wanted to work together again. “When I met her (Guneet), I told her that this is an extreme action film and that no one would want to make a film in India. I said it was too brutal and challenging. Guneet said if it is difficult then we should definitely achieve it,” he said.
Nikhil then wrote a short story based on the idea he had in his head and went to meet Karan Johar with Guneet. “I started telling him (Karan) the story and by the middle of it Karan said, ‘That’s what we’re doing.’ In fact, the journey of this film has been that smooth. I am very blessed to have producers like Guneet and Karan who understand the vision of the story. This is an extreme action film and I had never done an action film before in my life.” he said.
kill Raghav Juyal also appears in the role of the antagonist.
