Hollywood’s brightest stars participate in the American Film Institute Awards ceremony

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Laughter and hugs were shared among Hollywood’s top stars — including Margot Robbie, Meryl Streep and Leonardo DiCaprio — during a celebratory gala that all ended up winning an American Film Institute Award on Friday.

The annual invitation-only luncheon honored 10 films and 10 TV shows with well-received words about each popular project, followed by a short clip of the scene.

“Welcome to the annual AFI group hug,” said Institute President Bob Gazala as many in the audience laughed. ‘For those new to this humble cause, the answer is ‘no’. …No.’ “You’re not going to lose. Losing doesn’t happen here.”

Most of them appeared in a cheerful mood with smiles and long conversations on the ballroom in Beverly Hills.

Robbie chatted for a while with “Oppenheimer” director Christopher Nolan, who eventually turned around to shake hands with Robbie’s “Barbie” co-star America Ferrera. “Maestro” stars Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan enjoyed their time together on the red carpet while “Beef” star Ali Wong met up with Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.

“American Fiction” stars Jeffrey Wright and Sterling K. reunite. Brown with “Jury Duty” star James Marsden and former BET CEO Debra L. for me. Director Steven Spielberg took pictures with “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig.

An AFI event is all about having fun and creating a relaxed atmosphere without any pressure.

“When we started this event, more than 20 years ago, the idea was simple: We tell you you are great and why,” Ghazala said. “We’re sharing a moment from your movie or TV show. … This community is not a competition. It’s never a competition. I know that doesn’t sound ideal. But that’s who we are.”

Films honored include: “American Fiction,” “Barbie,” “The Holdovers,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” “May December,” “Oppenheimer,” and Past Lives,” “Poor Things,” and “Spider.” -Man: Through the Spider-Verse.

Television shows recognized are “Abbott Elementary,” “The Bear,” “Beef,” “Jury Duty,” “The Last of Us,” “The Morning Show,” and “Only Murders in the Building”, “Poker Face”, “The Last of Us”, “Only Murders in the Building”, and “Poker Face”. “Detention dogs” and “Caliphate”.

Others in the star-studded room included Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Jennifer Aniston, Robert Downey Jr., Emma Stone, Selena Gomez, Quinta Bronson, Lily Gladstone, Ayo Edebiri and Tracee Ellis Ross.

Ellen Burstyn concluded the luncheon with a prayer to celebrate the honorees she praised.

“I feel so lucky to be part of this amazing tribe,” the 91-year-old Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award winner said. “Thank you all for celebrating the best without making it a competition, just a shared appreciation. We appreciate it.” You all.”
