Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, PT Anderson Expand TCM Involvement – The Hollywood Reporter
As Turner Classic Movies celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, the beloved cable channel is expanding its partnership with Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and Paul Thomas Anderson.
The announcement was made on Friday during TCM’s 30th anniversary party at the Four Seasons Hotel Beverly Hills, with Spielberg and Anderson in attendance. Pamela Abdi, Warner Bros.’ co-president of films, told guests that the trio “will be extending their engagement with TCM for another year starting this month — several months earlier than their original agreement, which we initiated last May, so we can all look forward to this collaboration.” amazing.”
“It’s really a dream to be in these conversations and to really hear Paul and Stephen and Marty talk about the film, it’s humbling and wonderful. It just reminds you how wonderful it is to be part of this industry and part of this history,” she added.
The filmmakers were actively involved with TCM since the brand was in the midst of a shake-up and each met with the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav about his unpopular plans to restructure the channel.
At the event, Michael De Luca, director of films at Warner Bros., credited Zaslav, who was also in the room, for “the brilliant idea of asking three extraordinary filmmakers to come to TCM and help oversee and advise the channel.” They have been invaluable partners, producing great new content for the channel.
The trio will take part in some 30th anniversary programming this year, which includes a new podcast, new franchises and a studio tour. A theatrical trailer for TCM was also premiered at the event, as Abdi explained, “The first thing Steve, Marty and Paul championed earlier this year was a theatrical trailer that would remind everyone of TCM’s mission and goal of presenting and educating the past and present And the present.” Posterity on Film History; “Its place in our society as a cultural road map.”
