Police in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, registered an FIR against Nayanthara and others associated with the film based on a complaint by a group called Hindu Sewa Parishad. A complaint has also been filed against the film in Mumbai, but the Mumbai Police said that no FIR has been registered yet.

Following the backlash, the film’s co-producer Zee Studios apologized on Tuesday and assured that the controversial scene would be removed from the film and that an edited version would be released later.

“We, the co-producers of the film, had no intention of hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindu or Brahmin communities and would like to apologize for causing any inconvenience and hurt to the sentiments of the respective communities.” the studio said in its apology. .

The complaint with the Mumbai police was filed by Ramesh Solanki, who claimed to be the founder of a group called Hindu IT Cell.

“We are not going to stop here and want the censor board to enact strict laws to protect the sentiments of all religions,” Solanki told The Indian Express.

Police said an FIR was registered at Jabalpur’s Omti police station on Wednesday against Nayanthara, director Nilesh Krishna, producers Jatin Sethi and R Ravindran, and Netflix India’s head of content Monika Shergill. It has been announced that seven suspects have been named.

“The FIR was filed under IPC Sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion and committing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 34 (committed by several persons in furtherance of a common intention). The FIR said the film was “made to insult Sanatan Dharma” and promoted “love jihad”.
