Raveena Tandon on ‘Karma Calling’: You wonder if it’s good or bad
“Indrani Kothari’s character is very different from the person I am in real life. For example, I had to make sure that I didn’t bring my own thoughts, sympathy, into playing this character. It had to become someone else,” the actor said at the show’s trailer launch event on Tuesday.
The 49-year-old actor, known for films like ‘Andaz Apna Apna’, ‘Mohra’, ‘Maatr’, ‘Satta’ and ‘Daman’, said it was his endeavor to portray different characters.
For example, I have seen people in various avatars of ‘KGF 2’ and ‘Aranyak’, but this (grey) avatar (‘Karmaa Calling’) is something I have never played, be it in movies or OTT. So it was difficult for me,” he added.
The upcoming thriller series is Tandon’s second outing in the digital space after his 2021 show ‘Aranyak’.

Tandon said that he portrayed the character of Indrani Kothari with utmost sincerity.
“Playing Indrani Kothari was a bit difficult and you will understand it once you watch the show. The character is revealed in every episode and you wonder if it is good or bad, so it is difficult to maintain the balance. It is important to play it honestly because only then will it strike a chord with the audience,” he said.
‘Karmma Calling’ is adapted and directed by Ruchi Narain of ‘Guilty’ fame for Disney+ Hotstar.
Tandon said he was offered the show ten years ago by Narine but turned it down due to personal reasons.
“Personally I am a spiritual person, this show was planned literally ten years ago when Ruchi ji came to my office and we talked about this show, it was for a star and he needed a lot of dates.
“My son Ranbir was barely three-four months old then, so I gave him up. So it was karma that we are all here with the show ten years later,” said the actor.
Narain, who is also known for writing the cult classic Hazaaron Khuaishein Ais, said that “there is a time for everything”.
“It feels like karma has finally called. It’s been a long journey. There’s a time for everything. How the world has changed, the country, it’s like we’ve always had amazing talent like Ravenna at that time.
“I really always wanted to do a show with Ravenna and after ten years we even have a wonderful actress with Namrata (Sheth). Varun (sod) and so many actors that you will be able to see when the show is revealed. I am overwhelmed and extremely excited,” said the director.
Actors Vikrameet Virk, Walusha de SouzaGaurav Sharma, Viraf Patel, Amy Aela and others complete the cast of the show.
“Karmma Calling” will debut on Disney+ Hotstar on January 26.
