Feature films eligible for this year’s Best Picture award – The Hollywood Reporter

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday that it has released an annual “reminder list” for members, with 321 films competing for this year’s Oscars and 265 films qualifying in the best picture category.

To be eligible in the general categories, films must open (any running time greater than 40 minutes) in a commercial theater in at least one of the following areas: Los Angeles County; New York City. Gulf area; Chicago, Illinois; Miami, Florida; and Atlanta, Georgia, between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023. Additionally, they must complete a minimum of seven consecutive days of qualifying at the same venue.

Specifically, for films to be eligible for the Best Picture category, they must be eligible for public submission and “have submitted a confidential entry form to the Academy’s Representation and Inclusion Standards.” In addition, the film must meet two of the four required criteria, in addition to the theatrical component.

Voting on nominations begins on January 11 and ends on January 16. Nominations will be announced on January 23. The 96th Academy Awards will be held on March 10 at the Dolby Theater at Ovation Hollywood and will be broadcast live on ABC.
