Stranger: The Yankovic Story It won Outstanding Television Movie at the 2023 Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

The other candidates were Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas, Fire Island, Hocus Pocus 2, And victim.

This is one of eight Emmy Awards Stranger: The Yankovic Story Nominated for. Yankovic co-wrote and produced the film himself, which tells the story of his rise to satirical stardom. It also marks the first Emmy win for Yankovic, who is no stranger to giving attention, having five Grammy Awards to his name among many other notable accolades.

strange It sees Daniel Radcliffe step into the lead role, for which he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series. The film was also nominated for acting, musical composition (which it actually won), original music and lyrics, sound mixing, photo editing, and writing.

The award is one of the most important awards given annually to a film made for television, although this definition becomes a bit more ambiguous in the streaming era. In 2011, this category was combined with premium limited series or anthologies, but the decision was rescinded in 2014.

Upon accepting the trophy, director Eric Abel jokingly thanked the Academy for winning Best Picture, and thanked Radcliffe for his mustache, glasses, and abs transformation. Yankovic took to the stage to say he wanted to leave the room with the words of a wise man who told you to live the life you want to live and be as weird as you want to be.

When asked about his newly arrived midway to EGOT status behind the scenes, Jankovic said: “It only took 40 years, and in another 40 I’ll be there.”
