Why Tusshar Kapoor’s Bollywood career never took off despite a promising debut

Tusshar Kapoor, the son of Bollywood icon Jitendra, entered the film industry in 2001 with Kareena Kapoor-starrer Mujhe Kuhu Kena Hai. Although he got off to a good start, he only had a few hit films as a lead actor and struggled to maintain success. Tusshar Kapoor has also played supporting roles in several successful films.

Mujhe Kuchh Kehna Hai was directed by Satish Kaushik and was a huge success at the box office. Despite having a budget of just Rs 70 crore, the film earned a staggering Rs 30 million at the box office.

After his impressive debut, Tusshar Kapoor starred in numerous films back to back, but unfortunately, none could replicate the success of his first film. Many of his subsequent films underperformed at the box office, resulting in heavy losses for the producers who invested in those films.

After his debut victory, Tushar Kapoor’s career took a downturn and he suffered back-to-back failures like Kya Dil Ne Kaha, Geena Saaf Mere Lie and Kuch To Hai. Additionally, films such as ‘Yeh Dil’, ‘Shart’ and ‘Insaan’ were huge failures at the box office, contributing to his challenges in sustaining his early success.

After a long time, Tushar Kapoor achieved success with the ‘Golmaal’ series directed by Rohit Shetty. In these films, which had actors like Ajay Devgn, Sharman Joshi and Arshad Warsi in lead roles, Tushar Kapoor uniquely played the character without uttering any dialogues.

Apart from Golmaal, Tushar Kapoor has played supporting roles in various films that have earned him acclaim from the audience. Interestingly, while he garnered the affection of the audience in his supporting roles, he did not get that response in his leading roles.

Despite being in the industry for more than two decades, Tushar Kapoor continues to face the challenge of achieving stardom comparable to his father Jitendra. His journey in the industry reflects the complexities of establishing a prominent position in Bollywood.
