Safed movie review: The plot of this Meera Chopra starrer is Safed – it has no color.bollywood
“Let’s make something shocking and shocking. How do we make it? Oh, let’s make an unusual love story. It will catch our eye.” A film as bland as this, Safed. I sincerely hope that this was not the intention of the producers who set out to make this movie. In the end, we had a product that was enough to turn heads. Starring Meera Chopra as a widow named Kaali and Abhay Verma as the eunuch Chaandi, the plot (which the makers claim is based on a true story) revolves around two characters who cross paths and try to find solace in each other’s lives. The story revolves around two people who live a lonely life until the end. . I wrote “try” because that means we, the audience, are also trying to empathize with the characters. However, the stereotypical representation of both communities will disappoint you. The way they walk, the way they talk, the abuse to put it simply, is this really what director Sandeep Singh thinks a transgender person should be like? Jameel Khan is good as the chief eunuch. However, once again, Shin gets stuck in a half-hearted plot.
The director tries hard to create a plot that touches our heartstrings, but unfortunately it doesn’t happen. Velma (of “The Family Man” season 2 fame) takes on a meaty role and does a decent job. It’s a difficult role for him, but he manages to keep it interesting. The scene where he accepts his gender identity after being rejected by his love should be a very tense scene. However, the lack of sparkle is due to Singh’s mediocre direction and Verma’s shortcomings as an actor.
Chopra is unable to empathize with her attachment to Verma’s character due to limited support from the story. The scenes between the two of them explaining how this love story begins has zero impact.
Actor Barkha Sengupta is miscast as the eunuch. Because she can’t get into the character and make it believable to her. She hams it up from the introductory shot to the climax when she should be completely broken, to comforting Chand/Chandi (Velma’s character).
While the film’s intentions are good, the way transgender people and widows live in some parts of this country could certainly be treated better in the hands of an experienced director. I think this is a theme that could have been covered. However, what makes this attempt so great is the title itself. SAFE – NO COLOR.
The movie is streaming on Zee5.
