End of the year 2023 | Here are the highest-grossing films of the year

Barbie | Margot Robbie’s Greta Gerwig film has grossed $1,441 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year. The plot revolves around a stereotypical Barbie, who unexpectedly suffers malfunctions due to a design flaw. Thus, Barbie and Ken, played by Ryan Gosling, embark on an adventure to address the problem at its source and cross into the real world. Barbie also dominated movie trends in Google searches this year.

Super Mario Bros movie | The Nintendo video game adaptation grossed $1.361 million worldwide. The film became the tenth animated film to reach $1 billion and the first since 2019. The film premiered on April 5 and recorded the biggest opening weekend for any animated film ever. The film joins films like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World Dominion, and Avatar: The Way of Water as one of the only five pandemic-era films to reach the billion-dollar club.

Oppenheimer | One of the most talked about films of the year is Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of the American film Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, which has grossed $952 million worldwide. The film’s story follows the incredible journey of the famous physicist who led the Manhattan Project during World War II.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 | The final installment of Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy series has grossed $845 million worldwide, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing Hollywood film of 2023. The multi-starrer film, the 32nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also earned Award positive response from critics.

Fast x | The 11th installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, in which Vin Diesel plays Dom Toretto, has grossed $704 million worldwide. Toretto and his family team up with drug lord Hernan Reyes’ son, Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa), to take down rival Cipher. Aside from Mamoa, the film also featured Brie Larson and Rita Moreno for the first time in the series.

Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse | A sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the animated superhero film grossed $690 million worldwide. Miles Morales finds himself facing off against other spiders and challenged to save the one he loves.

The live-action adaptation of the 1989 Disney animated film of the same name stars singer Halle Bailey in the title role, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Noma Dumezweni, Art Malik, Javier Bardem, and Melissa McCarthy. It follows the story of the mermaid Princess Ariel, who is fascinated by the human world.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 | The seventh installment in the Mission Impossible series grossed $567 million and was among the highest grossers of 2023. The film stars Tom Cruise in the title role as the iconic character of Ethan Hunt. This American spy thriller premiered in American cinema on July 12 of this year.

racist | The 27th feature film for Pixar Animation Studios, grossing $496 million, is the third highest-grossing animated film in Hollywood this year. Elemental takes place in Element City, where the characters of fire, water, earth, and air exist, and an unlikely friendship develops between fire and water.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Obsession | The first Marvel Cinematic Universe release of 2023, the film kicked off Phase 5 of the MCU, earning $476 million. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly return as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope Van Dyne/Wasp. Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Douglas also reprized their roles.
