Friedel won the Outstanding Performance Award at this year’s Montclair Film Festival for his powerful performance as a man who lives next door to the Auschwitz concentration camp with his family.

After acting in German films (mass, Tony Erdmann), the German actress is gaining popularity with not one but two Oscar contenders this awards season, and her work in both films has received critical acclaim. Known for his roles in Shall we dance?, Memoirs of a Geisha And BabylonYakusho’s name is making waves in the Oscars circuit for his performance in it Perfect days, Japan’s official selection, is directed by three-time Oscar-nominated German auteur Wim Wenders. Yakusho has already won the Best Actor award for his performance at Cannes. THRFilm’s David Rooney described his character as having “life at the center of every frame”, while the Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus described Yakusho’s mission as “brilliant”.
