Arunraja Kamaraj on Jai’s character in web series Label: ‘I wanted a modern version of an angry young man’

Label, a crime thriller web series, marks the digital debut of director Arunraja Kamaraj. The series revolves around two worlds. The first world where people are labeled with titles with criminal connotations to those born there and the second one that ensures normalcy and respect for people. The series features renowned actor Jais as a lawyer who aspires to become a judge and Tanya Hope as a journalist.

In an exclusive interview, director Arunraja Kamaraj shared his motivation behind the series: “The character of the angry young man revolutionized Indian entertainment as it enlightened the minds of some people about the anomalies of society. We’ve seen a few variations of this too, but of late, I felt the angst of youth was missing from the screen. Through Label, I wanted to essay once again a modern version of the angry young man. For him, bias and identity go hand in hand, and he wants to break that cycle in a disruptive way. “

Talking about playing the challenging role of a lawyer at the label, Jay said, “When I read the script for the label, I immediately knew that Prabhakaran, my character, had a fire in his heart. He is no ordinary lawyer; He doesn’t just fight for justice, he points out how bias affects us every day. For this role, understanding the role of a lawyer in today’s world was a stressful but learning experience for me. Now I see why their lives are so incredibly hard. So when I decided on the project, I knew it wasn’t just about playing a role; He would live and experience the other side of life.”
