Ali Fazal said that he wanted to create a character in Mirzapur that was more than his looks.
Ali Fazal has been a part of many international and Indian projects, but the web series that made him a household name was the Amazon Prime Video series Mirzapur. is playing Gudu Pandit in Mirzapur It brought Ali a different kind of fame and during her time on the show, the character is seen for the first time as someone who is only focused on her looks, something viewers will discover more about her as the show goes on. The challenge for Ali was to make Gudu a character that is not just about her looks.
In a roundtable chat with Zoom, Ali said that initially everyone was just focused on looks, but he wanted to draw people into the character’s head. “Like Mirzapur, I thought… at first it’s all about looks. Like how we should look. And my biggest thing was, I want to run and throw people into this guy’s head. It’s always fun when you’re in my little playland. Then I can play. Then I have fun,” he said.

In an earlier chat with Jist, Ali Fazal said he chose not to take protein shakes or other supplements for Guddu, but made other changes to his diet and lifestyle. “The most boring time in my life was training for Mirzapur. I could not sleep. We practiced for three hours every day and you have to stay calm while doing that because we are creators. I was refusing the wrong means,” he said.
She also shared in the same chat that she almost had a fight with her principal because she didn’t see Gudu’s hair full. “For Guddu, I almost had to fight with my director at the time that I didn’t see her having hair,” she said. Ali mentioned that he was first offered the role of Muna, which was eventually played by Diviendu. “They didn’t offer me Gudu yet, they offered me Munna.” I said it’s a very author-driven role and it’s a great role, but I think I can bring something more to it (Guddu),” he said.
