Former President Donald Trump has been accused of bullying his way into a Hollywood movie – Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. Director Chris Columbus told Business Insider how the leading 2024 Republican candidate pushed his team by saying if they wanted to shoot at The Plaza, put me in your movie.
Trump appeared briefly in the sequel to Home Alone, released in 1992. The former president then ran his business and ran The Plaza Hotel. “Like most locations in New York City, you just pay a fee and you’re allowed to film at that location,” Columbus said. “We approached the Plaza Hotel, which Trump owned at the time, because we wanted to film in the lobby. We couldn’t rebuild The Plaza on Soundstage.”
The director added that Trump was frank. “Okay,” Trump said. We paid the fee, but he also said, “The only way you can use the arena is if I’m in the movie.”
Columbus added that the move worked well for the film. “When we first showed it, the strangest thing happened: People cheered when Trump appeared on screen. So I said to my editor: ‘Leave him in the movie. “It’s a moment for the audience.” But he bullied his way into the film.
In Home Alone Part 2, Kevin – played by Macaulay Culkin – is left alone by his family and ends up in New York City. He continues to stay at the Plaza Hotel and encounters thieves – Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern).
