A web series debut on the cards? Deepika Padukone is expected to do a show on the drug culture
After her OTT debut with Gehrayiaan last year, Deepika Padukone is now all set to venture deeper into the digital realm. According to reports, the actor is in talks for a web project that revolves around Indian drug mafia culture.
The star is enthusiastic about the project and “sees how it fits into his schedule,” according to a Hindustan Times story. “Deepika is currently in talks with the streaming giant for a mega-action thriller,” a source told the publication.
He also added: “He saw the power and reach of OTT media and wants to explore it further.” Sharing the details, the source claims, “This is a project for Netflix and will revolve around the drug culture in India, told from a female perspective. This is a very interesting project and includes a lot of action and intense sequences. He wants to sign the project and wants to sign it. However, he is currently checking his schedule.”
The report also says, “If he signs on the dotted line, they’re looking to start filming early next year.”
Deepika’s OTT Debut
The actor starred in Gehraiyaan, which, according to the synopsis, tells the story of how “Alisha, a thirty-year-old yoga instructor’s life is usurped by the entry of her cousin, Tia’s fiancé, Zayn. With a troubled past in common, Alisha and Zayn find solace and anger in each other.
As for her projects, Deepika is currently awaiting the release of Fighter. The upcoming aerial action film directed by Siddharth Anand also stars Hrithik Roshan and Anil Kapoor.
Fighter’s planned September 30, 2022 release date has been pushed back due to production delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film is slated to hit theaters on January 25, 2024, which coincides with the Republic Day weekend.
