Liger and Zanjeer, 5 Hindi movies starring southern actors that failed miserably

Southern actors are increasingly venturing into pan-Indian films, with Hindi versions penetrating the northern market. In the past two years, the trend of pan-Indian films originating from the south has gained significant momentum, propelling stars like Allu Arjun, Thalapathy Vijay, Jr. NTR and Yash to national fame. However, even when these actors appeared in Hindi films, the box office collections were not that great. Veterans like Nagarjuna and Kamal Haasan once found success in Hindi films, but recent ventures starring South Indian actors have faced challenges.

1. Liger:

Vijay Deverakonda has high hopes for Liger and director Puri Jagannadh expressed confidence that Deverakonda will be the next big sensation. Unfortunately, the film failed both critically and commercially and their next collaboration, ‘Jana Gana Mana’, was cancelled.

2. Zanjeer:

Northern belt favorite Ram Charan ventures into Hindi films with ‘Zanjeer’, a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s classic. Despite its popularity, the film failed to make an impact and faded away.

3. Goodbye:

After achieving success with Pushpa: The Rise, Rashmika Mandanna faced setbacks with the family drama Goodbye. Even though she co-starred with Amitabh Bachchan and Neena Gupta, the film failed to resonate with audiences before her subsequent success in Animal.

4. Aiya:

Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran has paired up with Rani Mukherjee in ‘Aiyyaa’. However, the film’s unconventional plot was deemed too bizarre by audiences, leading to its rejection. Prithviraj’s supporting role in Aurangzeb with Arjun Kapoor also failed to be a success.

5. Lal Singh Chaddha:

Aamir Khan’s much-anticipated Lal Singh Chaddha faced difficulties due to the boycott movement, with a large section of the audience opting out. Additionally, the film received less than flattering reviews. Naga Chaitanya, who will be making her Hindi film debut, also starred in the film.

Although the pan-Indian trend brought South Indian stars national recognition, the transition to Hindi films did not always lead to success. The complexities of audience tastes and diverse storytelling sensibilities between regional and Hindi films have been a challenge some southern actors have been grappling with lately.
