From ‘Jawan’ to ‘Barbie’, 10 Most Searched Movies of 2023

This year was a big one for the entertainment industry, with audiences able to watch a number of blockbuster movies in theaters. Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan has topped the list of most Googled Hindi films this year. Speaking of ‘Jawan’, it secured the third position in the search list, followed by Sunny Deol’s hit ‘Gadar 2’ at number eight. SRK’s another film ‘Pathaan’ rounded out the top 10 most searched films of the year worldwide. Check out the top movie searches on Google.

“Barbie” is based on Mattel’s fashion doll of the same name and is the first live-action Barbie movie after numerous computer-animated films. Starring Margot Robbie as the title character and Ryan Gosling as Ken, the film depicts a journey of self-discovery between two people who overcome an existential crisis. Directed by Greta Gerwig, the supporting cast includes America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, “Oppenheimer” depicts the life and career of American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man responsible for building the atomic bomb. The film, based on Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s American Prometheus, was a huge hit when it was released this summer.

Filmmaker Atlee’s ‘Jawan’ was the only Indian film to rank in the top three worldwide. In this film, Shah Rukh Khan plays the dual roles of father and son who work together to correct the corruption in the society. Other actors like Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone, Priyamani and Sanya Malhotra also appear in supporting roles. It is produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma.

The “Sound of Freedom” was promoted by right-wing pundits and politicians, including former US President Donald Trump. In the film, Jim Caviezel plays Tim Ballard, a former U.S. government official who embarks on a mission to rescue children from sex traffickers in Colombia. The plot revolves around Ballard’s Subway Operation, an anti-sex trafficking organization. The producer is Eduardo Verastegui, who also stars in the film.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is one of the most anticipated movies of 2023. The film premiered with Keanu Reeves reprising his role as the famous hitman seeking revenge on the High Table. Also starring are Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgard, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamir Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, Clancy Brown, and Ian McShane. The film was directed and co-produced by Chad Stahelski.​

“Avatar: The Way of Water” took the box office by storm, becoming the third highest-grossing movie in history. The film follows a blue-skinned humanoid named Jake Sully, who, threatened by a new human threat, takes refuge with his family in the aquatic Metkaina clan on the habitable exomoon of Pandora. Co-produced and directed by James Cameron.

Everything Everywhere All at Once is a 2022 American absurdist comedy-drama film written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. The film stars Michelle Yeoh as Evelyn Quan Wang, a Chinese-American immigrant. Stephanie Hsu, Ke Hui Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr., and James Hong also appear in supporting roles.

‘Gadar 2’ is the sequel to ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ which was released in 2001. Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma reprise their roles from the previous film. It was released theatrically on August 11, 2023, and was a commercial success. ‘Gadar 2’ also became the first film to be screened for members of parliament at the new Parliament House. “Creed III” is the sequel to “Creed II,” which is the third movie in the “Creed” movie series and the ninth movie in the overall “Rocky” movie series. The film follows successful and recently retired boxer Adonis Creed as he comes face-to-face with his childhood friend and former boxing prodigy Damian Anderson. “Creed III” starred and was directed by Michael B. Jordan.

Shah Rukh Khan made a big comeback on screen after four years with Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan. It broke all box office records within days. Apart from SRK, the film also featured Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in lead roles. This is part of his YRF Spy Universe and will showcase the events that happened after ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ and ‘War’. Salman Khan reprized his role of Tiger in ‘Pathaan’.
