The debate over nepotism in Bollywood has escalated further with the appearance of star kids in Zoya Akhtar’s Archies. It is worth noting that the majority of the young actors currently appearing are star kids. Not all of them have achieved the same level of success as their famous parents. Over two decades ago, when Abhishek Bachchan made his debut in the film industry, he was shouldering a huge responsibility. He had to carry on the huge legacy that his father Amitabh Bachchan had built over the decades. Unfortunately, his first film, Refugee Bombing, was a huge hit at the box office. The film, released in 2000, was also largely overshadowed by the massive phenomenon known as ‘Kaho Na Pyar Hai’, which was the debut vehicle for another star kid, Hrithik Roshan.

Hrithik stole all the limelight, but fortunately Abhishek did not fall from grace completely. He continued to receive offers to act in films such as ‘Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya’ and ‘Dhai Akshar Prem Ke’. However, most of these films failed until Mani Ratnam’s Yuva materialized and his performance received critical acclaim.

Abhishek Bachchan then scored a few hits in the form of Dhoom, Bunty Aur Babli, Guru and Paa. He has appeared in 60 movies so far, 38 of which were huge failures. His career trajectory definitely cannot be compared to his legendary father. Despite his failures, Abhishek never stopped getting offers. That’s simply because filmmakers recognized his talent. Currently, Abhishek Bachchan charges between Rs 1 million to Rs 12 million per film. According to reports, his total assets are around Rs 280 million.

Abhishek’s recent films ‘Dasvi’ and ‘Ludo’ were released on Netflix and received acclaim from many critics. His latest theatrical release was ‘Ghoomar’ which was also a huge success but failed to sustain the box office success. He also played a negative cameo in Ajay Devgn’s Bhola, a remake of the Tamil film Kaithi.
