Bollywood is ignorant of animals’ success!
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal has come under extreme criticism for depicting extreme violence and promoting toxic masculinity. This debate has now reached Congress.
Recently, Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan expressed concerns about the film and accused the makers of “legitimizing violence and misogyny”.
But all this has led to huge box office collections and Animal is set to become another $500 million film at the Indian box office after Pasaan, Gaddar 2 and Jawan.
Bollywood makers are stunned to see such films, which ignore most of the basic rules of filmmaking, gross unimaginable numbers at the box office. The fraternity is left stunned as the audience gets extremely excited watching Ranbir Kapoor’s antics on the big screen.
Now, several Bollywood filmmakers are expected to attempt such types of films in the next few days.
But what people have to realize is that such content is natural for Vanga. It’s his trademark, his brand of film. Whether you like or dislike his work varies from person to person, but no matter what his work is, everyone knows that in order to make a movie like “Animal,” it takes a belief that other filmmakers don’t have. I can’t deny it.
Atlee’s Jawan was an interesting film but not a wall-breaker. Animal is a completely flawed movie and the second half was horribly boring. However, it definitely broke many myths and barriers and normalized many new things in mainstream cinema.
While Bollywood can try to cash in on this new kind of film, it may be impossible to imitate or recreate the same impact.
