‘Genie’ Opens as Peacock’s Biggest Original Movie Ever – The Hollywood Reporter
Peacock movie The genie It delivered a strong opening for Peacock during Thanksgiving week — big enough, in fact, to rank as the biggest original film to date.
The holiday comedy starring Melissa McCarthy and Papa Essiedu premiered Nov. 22 on Peacock and attracted about 405 million minutes of viewing time during its first five days, according to Nielsen numbers (full streaming top 10 charts for Thanksgiving week will be available at Later in December. It’s set to rank seventh among films for the week, which typically sees a number of holiday favorites (eg Home Alone And dwarf) Re-enter flowcharts.

The genie McCarthy stars as Flora, a genie who has been trapped for more than 2,000 years inside an antique jewelry box. After thousands of years of being called upon to grant wishes for golden doubloons and sexy girls for greedy men, Flora is mistakenly called into service by Bernard Bottle (Issidu, I may destroy you), whose life collapses. Denny Benton, Marc Maron, Jordyn McIntosh, Luis Guzman and Alan Cumming also star.
Richard Curtis (Love indeed, yesterday) wrote the film, which is based on his 1991 BBC television show Bernard and the Genie. Sam Boyd (“Love Life”) directed the film from Working Title and Universal Pictures. The film was produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, Riva Marker and Curtis. McCarthy, Carolyn Jaczko, Alexandra Lowe, Sarah Jane Robinson, Nicole King and Stacey O’Neill are the executive producers.
