Mark Ruffalo taps Channing Tatum’s ear while filming Foxcatcher – The Hollywood Reporter

Mark Ruffalo recalls the moment he accidentally hit Channing Tatum’s eardrums while filming the 2014 movie Foxcatcher together.

“It was easy to do because he hit me so many times,” Ruffalo quipped, given that his co-stars spent “about four months wrestling, learning how to wrestle together” for the film.

Directed by Bennett Miller, the film explores the true story of wealthy heir John du Pont, who murdered American Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz in 1996. Tatum and Ruffalo play brothers Mark and David Schultz, respectively, while Steve Carell plays John du Pont.

Ruffalo explained that Tatum was carrying “30 pounds off me, so when it came time to take him out, I said, ‘He came from Alabama,’” and beat his co-stars’ eardrums in the process.

Foxcatcher It received five Academy Award nominations, including Carell for Best Lead Actor, Ruffalo for Best Supporting Actor, and Miller for Best Achievement in Direction, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Later during his Hot In the interview, Ruffalo shared what it was like to be roommates with Joaquin Phoenix while filming the 2007 crime drama, Reservation method.

“He’s a great cook, and he turned me on to vegetarian cuisine so he was cooking all the time and he was a great roommate,” Ruffalo recalls. “It was a roommate and he’d go out and you’d get a text (saying) ‘Do you need anything?’ Do you need me to pick up anything? The place is clean, all the dishes are washed, and he has a great sense of humor.
