From Wonka to Star Wars: All the ‘Hollywood’ movies filmed in rural England – Did…
6 December 2023, 22:24
We’ve all heard of Disney, Warner Bros. and Universal, the Hollywood film studios that produce the biggest and best films in the world.
Whether it’s Star Wars, Marvel or Batman, almost all of the most popular films will be produced by the big Hollywood studios.
While this fact will likely remain true for a long time, the actual filming locations for these big-budget films are often outside of the United States.
In fact, the UK – partly due to tax breaks given to films shot here – has become somewhat of a magnet for Hollywood films, with some of the most famous films of our time being filmed in rural England.
Does your favorite make the list?
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
If you’re a Star Wars fan, you’ll remember the intense anticipation generated by the 2015 release of The Force Awakens, the first film in the series in over a decade.
It follows a new cast of characters, including Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren, across the galaxy as the legacy of the original Star Wars trilogy looms large.
While the film is set in a galaxy far, far away, it had a number of filming locations across the UK, according to VirginMedia.
This includes the Lake District of Cumbria, Gloucestershire and Berkshire.
Can you discover your hometown in The Force Awakens?
Wonka
More recently, the new Wonka film starring Timothée Chalamet has also been filmed across the UK.
Some filming locations include:
- Bath and North East Somerset
- oxfordshire
- Bath and North East Somerset
- Bath and North East Somerset
- Dorset
Batman
Robert Pattison was not the first actor to take on the mantle of Batman, Gotham’s vigilante, in the film of the same name, which was released in 2022.
It’s a dark film – both physically and thematically – so perhaps it’s no surprise that much of it was filmed in the perpetually miserable UK weather.
Some filming locations include:
- Hertfordshire
- Bedford
- Merseyside
- Greater London
pride and prejudice
It wasn’t just the franchise films that chose locations for filming in the UK, but Pride and Prejudice as well.
Romantic drama films across Wiltshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire.
Who would have thought?
Guardians of the Galaxy
Well, right back to the franchise films, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) was filmed in London and Hertfordshire.
It’s not the only Marvel movie to be filmed in the UK, especially in London, with Loki and Secret Invasion – both released on Disney+ – recently featuring scenes filmed in London.
