Nicolas Cage probably only has “three or four movies left.”
Nicolas Cage says he probably only has “three or four more movies left” and wants to leave on a high note.
The Hollywood star has appeared in a slew of films including The Retirement Plan, Renfield, The Flash, Sympathy For The Devil and Dream Scenario.
Speaking to Vanity Fair about his future in Hollywood, Cage said he was “starting to solidify” his plan.
“I probably have three or four more films left,” he said.
“I feel like I said what I had to say in cinema. I think I took cinematic performance as far as I could go.
“I want to say goodbye on a high note.”
Cage, who turns 60 next month, discussed his future and said he was evaluating how much time he had left.
He added: “I thought to myself, ‘Well, my father died at 75, and I’m going to be 60. If I’m lucky, I’ll probably have a good 15 years, and hopefully more than that.'”
“What do I want to do during those 15 years, using my father as a model? It occurred to me very clearly that I wanted to spend time with my family.”
Cage’s youngest daughter, Auguste Francesca, with wife Reiko Shibata, was born last year.
The Oscar-winning actor, who starred in films including National Treasure and Leaving Las Vegas, said he was concerned about how his image would be used upon his death.
“I think a lot about what will happen to my likeness when I die,” he said.
“I don’t want, for example, Peter Love (Kiss of the Vampire) or Frank Pearce (Bringing Out the Dead) or Cameron Poe (Con Air) or any of these characters I’ve created to be put into a computer deciding what to do with them.
“I’m very concerned about how they will use my likeness.”
Speaking about what might be next for him, Cage said he wants to be more serious and rigorous in his casting process.
“But I want to look forward. I want to see what’s next,” he said.
Cage’s comments come after 90-year-old British actor Sir Michael Caine confirmed in October that he would retire from acting after the release of his film The Great Escaper.
Also this year, Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston announced that he would be taking a year-long break from acting to spend more time with his wife Robin Dearden and get “some sort of reset” in his career.
This came shortly after British actor Tom Holland told Extra TV that he would take a year off after a difficult experience working on the psychological thriller series The Crowded Room.
