Huadi actor Vipin Sharma: More effort is needed to make OTT shows unique

Actor Vipin Sharma is enjoying a ‘good phase’ of his career as his four films – Sirf ek bandaa kaafi hai, Hadi, Guns and roses and PI Meena – was released in the last few months.

An actor who gained fame Taare Zameen Fri (2007) says: “The web has certainly opened up new avenues. With more options, I can choose roles that will have a lasting impact on the audience. I was never interested in the duration of the role. For example Raanjhanaa (2013) had barely 2-3 scenes and no dialogues but still got me rave reviews. And that’s what the actor strives for.”

Sharma is happy with the OTT boom, but feels that creators should work more on producing web content like they do in movies. “I wish more time and money had gone into the writing and overall production design to make each show stand out! “The series is like making three films, so much time and effort is required, otherwise the shows give a similar effect visually,” says the actor.

In Lucknow, she shot for director Apoorv Singh Karki’s next Bhaiyaaj, where she reunited. It’s a surf ec gang… Producer and actor Manoj Bajpayee. “This time I am playing a policeman. I did (actor) Dev Patel’s next monkey man which is written, directed and produced by him. I have also shot for a Punjabi film Dear Jas Directed by Tarsem Singh, which is doing the festival rounds. My short film Queen of the Night, which we shot in Lucknow last year, is touring festivals and we are looking forward to making it into a full-length feature film,” he says.

In addition, I am doing a TV series Made in heaven Directed by Nitya Mehra and will next do a Dharma production film,” he adds.

The actor recently co-wrote a web show PI Meena. “It’s a creative calling and a natural progression. I am shooting a feature film in Varanasi. I wrote the script, we are also working on the actors. I have scripted and directed short films before,” adds Sharma.
