Wonder Woman 1984 Trailer (2020)

The Wonder Woman 1984 trailer gives us a good glimpse at the film’s eighties setting, a time important to the director. Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, Jenkins explained that this decade “was mankind at its best and worst”, making this backdrop fertile ground for Wonder Woman’s struggle against evil.

Speaking of evil, we see in the trailer that Kristin Wiig appears as Barbara Minerva, aka Wonder Woman’s arch enemy, Cheetah. The trailer opens with the pair sharing drinks as friends, but given their comics history, we doubt this’ll last long.

Wonder Woman 1984 is being produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins, Stephen Jones, and Gal Gadot. Rebecca Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns, and Walter Hamada serving as executive producers.

Directed by Patty Jenkins from a script she co-wrote with David Callaham and a treatment she developed with Geoff Johns, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, Gabriella Wilde, Connie Nielson, and Robin Wright

Explaining that Wonder Woman 1984‘s director, Patty Jenkins, was “determined that this movie should be the next iteration of Wonder Woman but not a sequel,” according to Roven she’s definitely delivered that.

“It’s a completely different time frame,” he explained. “You’ll get a sense of what Diana-slash-Wonder Woman had been doing in the intervening years. But it’s a completely different story that we’re telling. Even though it’ll have a lot of the same emotional things, a lot of humor, a lot of brave action. [It] tugs at the heartstrings as well.

“It’s a standalone film in the same way that Indiana Jones or Bond films are, instead of one continuous story that requires many installments.”

Confirmed on Twitter by Jenkins, the director wrote: “So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true. So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. I can’t wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned.”
