Actor Dia Mirza said that while male actors were never reprimanded for being late for work, women were suddenly labeled as unprofessional.
Actor Dia Mirza has spoken about the casual sexism she faced on film sets when she was just starting out 20 years ago. She said there are basic requirements such as: Washrooms were not available to women Even in the film industry, you can easily be labeled as unprofessional on the slightest occasion. In an interview with BBC Hindi, Dia said the playing field was unequal for women.
When asked about the sexism she has to face on a daily basis and why it is so common, Dia replied in Hindi: There would be a difference in how we were treated and the amenities available to us. Our vanity van will be smaller. When I go on location to shoot a song, I can’t use basic things like toilets. We had to go behind a tree or a rock and three people protected you with a big sheet. There will be no space to change clothes. Basically, we lacked privacy and access to basic hygiene. ”

she continued. “But even if a man came in late, no one said anything to them. But if a woman caused any kind of delay, we were immediately labeled as unprofessional. Many female actors have spoken out about the lateness of male stars, as well as hygiene and privacy issues on film sets at the time. “Back then, when we went to shoot, there was no toilet in the studio and we would sit there all day without going to the toilet. Thankfully, we didn’t have any kidney-related problems. Sometimes behind the bushes. Sometimes I would change clothes.” Asha Parekh He told ANI at the Indian Film Festival in India.
On my granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda’s podcast, Jaya Bachchan also shared her memories. About the troubles she had to face on film sets. “When we were outdoors, we didn’t have vans. We had to change our clothes behind the bushes. Everything. We didn’t even have enough toilets. It was awkward and embarrassing. We had three to three sanitary napkins. I used four pads and carried around a plastic bag to dispose of the napkins and put them in a basket so I could dispose of them as soon as I got home,” Jaya said.
