Web series assistant director sexually assaulted in Mumbai by woman he met on dating site | Mumbai news

A 45-year-old Mumbai-based assistant director of a web series has filed a complaint against an unidentified woman and others for allegedly befriending her on a dating site and later threatening to extort money by making their intimate conversation public.

On Tuesday, the Mumbai police filed an FIR in the matter and said they are investigating it.

In his complaint, the assistant principal said he contacted the woman while using a dating website on December 13 and started talking to her frequently.

“During the intimate conversation, the woman took off all her clothes and pushed the complainant to take off his clothes. He then recorded the call without her knowledge,” he said in the police complaint.

Some time later, the complainant received video footage of a conversation with a naked woman from two unknown numbers. The senders also sent a message demanding Rs 75,000 and said that if the complainant did not pay them, they would share video clips of his conversation with those he knew and also upload them on social media, the FIR said.

The complainant said he was scared and asked them to reduce the amount and later transferred Rs 35,000 to the given bank account, the officer said. However, the accused started demanding more money, after which the complainant approached the police.

On her complaint, the police registered a case against the unidentified woman and others under Indian Penal Code Sections 385 (causing fear of injury to person for extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (common intention). They were also charged under sections 66D (cheating a person using computer resources), 66E (breach of privacy) and 67A (publication or transmission of any material in electronic form containing sexual acts) of the Information Technology Act.

Police say they are trying to get details of the mobile numbers and bank account used in the alleged crime. An inspector-rank officer is investigating the matter, they added.
