Jasprit Bumrah shuts down critics after scripting ICC rankings | Cricket

Coming off a scripted history in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test bowling rankings on Wednesday, India’s leading pacer Jasprit Bumrah decided to shut down his critics with a cautionary message. Pacer Bumrah powered Rohit Sharma’s India to a series-levelling win against England in the 2nd Test on Monday. Days after leading Virat Kohli’s undermanned Indian side to a comfortable win, speedster Bumrah has been confirmed as the new No. 1 bowler by the ICC in their newly released Men’s Test Bowler Rankings.

Bumrah, the first Indian pacer to top the Test rankings, took to Instagram to share his first reaction after becoming the highest-rated bowler in the longest format. Bumrah’s post ‘Support vs Congratulation’ became the talk of the town on social media. Bumrah was sidelined in 2022 with a stress fracture in his lower back. The fast bowler has also been ruled out of the 2022 Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup in Australia due to a back injury.

Bumrah’s sensational comeback after long injury

After spending 11 months away from cricket, Bumrah returned to the Indian side for the Ireland series. Bumrah was part of India’s Asia Cup squad in 2023. Premier Pacer also spearheaded India’s fast bowling attack along with veteran Mohammed Shami at the ICC World Cup last year. Bumrah-starred India took on eventual winners Australia in the One Day International (ODI) World Cup final.

Bumrah tops the ICC rankings after a masterclass in Vizag

As India’s vice-captain in the England Test series, Bumrah produced a reverse-swing masterclass in Visakhapatnam to give the hosts a famous victory. The 30-year-old took nine wickets to help India beat England by 106 runs in the 2nd Test at Vizag. Pacer Bumrah was named Man of the Match for his bowling heroics against England. Days after India’s impressive victory, Bumrah replaced veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin as the number one Test bowler. Speedster Bumrah is the fourth Indian to top the ICC bowling charts. Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Bishan Singh Bedi have achieved the same feat earlier.
