Hazbin Hotel announces season 1 premiere date and guests
Hazbin Hotel, Prime Video’s new adult animated musical comedy series produced by A24, has an official premiere date of January 19, 2024.
Prime Video made the announcement on Monday, also revealing some musically inclined guest stars. Broadway vets Darren Criss (St. Peter), Jeremy Jordan (Lucifer Morningstar), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Carmilla Carmine), Patina Miller (Serra) and Jessica Vossky (Lutie) will lend their voices in the first season, joining already-announced cast members Erika Henningsen , Stephanie Beatriz, Alex Brightman, Keith David, Kimiko Glenn, Blake Roman, Amir Talay, Christian Borle and Joel Perez.
Sam Haft (also known for his work on the songs for the popular web series Helluva Boss) and Emmy-nominated composer/composer Andrew Anderberg will contribute original music and lyrics to the Prime Video series.
Hazbin Hotel is based on an animated pilot created by Vivienne Medrano. Medrano released a 30-minute episode on YouTube in 2019, where it quickly became a massive hit; It currently has 92 million views.
That popularity led to Prime Video picking it up to series last September, ordering two seasons right off the bat. The move comes as the streaming platform continues to find success in the adult animated series arena, with shows like Invincible and The Legend of Vox Machina receiving multiple seasons and dedicated fan bases.
According to Prime Video’s official synopsis, “Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons in order to peacefully reduce the overpopulation in her kingdom. After the annual extermination imposed by the angels, she opens the hotel in hopes of . that the Guardians will “check” in Heaven. While most of Hell scoffs at his goal, his loyal partner Wag and their first test subject, adult film star Angel Dust, are by his side. When a powerful being known as “The Radio Demon” appeals to Charlie to help in his endeavours, his A crazy dream is given a chance to become a reality.
