Durgesh Kumar explains how he borrowed the mannerisms of someone he knows for ‘Panchayat’

Actor Durgesh Kumar, who is set to play the role of Banrakas in the upcoming third season of streaming drama series Panchayat, has shared how he approaches his character on the show.


Banrakas has become one of the most memorable characters in the Indian streaming space due to his cunning ways and opposition to Pradhan-pati (played by Raghubir Yadav) and Abhishek (played by Jitendra Kumar).

Discussing the preparation for the role, Durgesh told IANS, “Chandan Kumar has written such an amazing script for ‘Panchayat’ that the actor rarely has to go beyond the source material. Script ko aap 200 baar paddh lijiye, apko character ka sara sur samajh. Aa jatha hai If you read it 200 times, you will understand all the nuances of the character).

Often talked about as a method actor, when asked if he had a similar route for his character, the actor said that he got inspiration for his character in ‘Panchayat’ from a personal acquaintance.

“There is a man in my village called Balakan Chaudhary, he is a banrakasi in the true sense. I borrowed some of his mannerisms and combined what was in the script to highlight the character and made a banrakasi. A show in flesh and blood,” he said.
