KSWB-TV, KUSI-TV to televise six regular season Gulls games throughout San Diego area

The San Diego Gulls, KSWB-TV (FOX 5 San Diego) and KUSI-TV today announced the American Hockey League (AHL) club’s local television schedule for the 2023-24 AHL season. The six games will be broadcast live on both networks and will be available throughout San Diego County.

The schedule includes four home contests at Pechanga Arena in San Diego and two home contests at Toyota Arena in Ontario. The first telecast of the season will be Friday, Oct. 13, when the Gulls take on the Ontario Reign at Toyota Arena (7 p.m.) on FOX 5 San Diego. San Diego will televise the first KUSI-TV game in team history on Saturday, Nov. 11, when the Gulls host the Colorado Eagles on the team’s annual Military Appreciation Night.

aaron cooney He is in his first season as the Gulls’ broadcaster and digital content producer. Cooney will return to the Gulls after spending the 2022-23 season with the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings. He served as San Diego’s communications and broadcast director for two seasons in 2021-22, overseeing external media and public relations, while also serving as executive producer of the team’s magazine-style show “Gulls All Access” on FOX 5 San Diego. . In addition, Cooney assumed play-by-play duties on three different occasions and was called up for Gulls games both at his home and on the road.

Cooney spent nearly eight years with the Erie Otters as the team’s director of broadcast and media relations. In that role, he oversaw the live commentary for all home and away games while managing day-to-day communication needs. During his final three years in Erie, he also served as the team’s director of marketing and partnerships, creating new avenues for revenue growth while maintaining the team’s broadcast contracts and media obligations.

Cooney joins Gulls as color analyst BJ McPherson McPherson called up approximately 234 home games. McPherson played in 774 professional hockey games in the AHL, West Coast Hockey League (WCHL), and International Hockey League (IHL) from 1994 to 2001, and went 137-208 as a member of the WCHL Gulls from 1996 to 2001. He scored 345 points. He won the Taylor Cup four times with San Diego.
