Production veterans launch risk and safety consulting firm Take 2

Production management veterans Kim Barrett and Michael J. Tamburro have teamed up to launch Take 2 Risk & Safety, a company focused on providing expert risk management and safety consulting services for film, television and live-action productions.

The partners stated that the company’s goal is to “revolutionize” safety practices in the entertainment industry.

Take 2 Risk & Safety aims to provide consulting services to make productions and live events safer for all involved, as well as to help identify operational risks and improve insurance plans. Take 2 Risk & Safety will also offer aviation consulting services, in a nod to the growing use of aerial photography and drones in high-end productions.

The company’s launch comes in the wake of a number of fatal accidents involving cinema and television equipment in recent years. The need for a next-generation look at Hollywood safety rules was brought into sharp focus with the tragic 2021 shooting on the set of the independent film “Rust,” which claimed the life of cinematographer Halina Hutchins.

“Our vision for Take 2 is clear: entertainment should be exciting, not threatening,” Tamburo said. “We are here to protect this principle and weave this spirit into the fabric of industry standards.”

Barrett led the risk management department at Warner Bros. For 14 years and has a background in insurance brokerage. Tamburo managed production safety for Walt Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery, and served as an air coordinator and helicopter pilot.

“Take 2 Risk & Safety represents our unwavering promise to ensure the entertainment industry shines safely,” Barrett said in a statement.
