Excellence in Film Award, Santa Barbara Film Festival – The Hollywood Reporter

Ryan Gosling is set to receive the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.

The actor – who recently had an award-winning performance as Kane in Greta Gerwig’s film Barbie – He will be the 16th recipient of the prestigious award, which celebrates lifelong contributors to cinema through their work in front of, behind the camera or both.

“Ryan Gosling has always been a dramatic and comedic force in front of the camera,” Roger Dorling, the festival’s executive director, said in a statement. “This year, thanks to his triumphant, universally acclaimed performance as Kane Barbie – The film that gained the attention of critics and moviegoers around the world – it has become a true cinematic force.

The two-time Oscar nominee was honored for his work in Half nelson And La la land. Over the course of a career spanning decades, Gosling has won an Independent Spirit Film Award, a National Board of Review Award, and more. He has also received nominations from BAFTA and the Screen Actors Guild.

Previous winners of the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film include Michelle Yeoh, Martin Scorsese, Hugh Jackman, Dame Judi Dench, Jane Fonda, Jessica Lange, Forest Whitaker, Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, Harrison Ford, Quentin Tarantino, Ed Harris and John Travolta.

Gosling will receive the award during the official dinner of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara on January 13, 2024, while the festival itself will run from February 7 to 17. It has been announced but will include screenings, filmmaker Q&As, industry panels and celebrity tributes.
