A plumber is about to fulfill a decade-long dream of going on tour with his music – with his story being turned into a Hollywood movie.

Kev Crane, 51, from Quorn in Leicestershire, says he is fitting out another bathroom in January before preparing for a football club tour in the spring, after discovering his talents while working.

“I was singing in the bathroom, and my neighbor heard me singing, so he said to Paul, who owns News Reality Records, ‘Who’s that guy singing in your bathroom?’” says the plumber.

“We talked and he told me he had a record company, so I said, ‘Actually I just built a recording studio in my room and re-released an album I started 25 years ago,'” Mr. Crane explained.

Lockdown gave Mr. Crane time to build the studio and rediscover his passion, having been in a band for decades.

Record producer Paul Connelly said: “The sound fit the 80s so perfectly, I thought no one was making anything quite like this and he did it all himself, I was blown away by it.

“That story about him trying to rebuild the dream he had 20 years ago, it blows my mind that we have to get rid of this.”

After Connelly released music through his label, Hollywood screenwriters heard his story in the Washington Post.

Mr. Crane traveled to Los Angeles for meetings with director Billy Ray, who wrote the screenplay for the 2012 film The Hunger Games and Captain Phillips (2013), starring Tom Hanks.

“What I loved about this story is that it was about these two guys, Kevin and Paul, for whom music was everything. And then they lost that thread for almost 20 years of their lives,” Mr Ray told Sky News. life.

“Then they found that thread again and saved each other, even though none of them knew they needed saving. I thought that was beautiful.”

He added that the script is under development with British screenwriters Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais. The pair have written comedies including The Likely Lads, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, and the feature film The Commitments.

Ray said the film will be called “The Music Inside” and that they will get “an amazing person” to play the lead role.
