“A healthy Hollywood ecosystem is about balance” – Deadline

There’s a whole debate in Hollywood about how much the industry relies on established franchises like superhero films and how many original films are commissioned. Director Christopher Nolan examines this, explaining that there should be a balance between all types of films.

“I think there’s always a balance in Hollywood between established titles that can ensure audiences come back and give people more of what they want,” he said. News agency During a recent interview. “This has always been a big part of the economics of Hollywood, and it pays for the production and distribution of a lot of other types of films.”

Nolan noted that the audience must also be respected because they have a “desire for something new.”

“It’s one of the great thrills of going to the movies, or seeing a trailer for a movie you’ve never heard of, or a type of movie you haven’t seen or haven’t seen in a long time, something new, something fresh,” he added. “A healthy Hollywood ecosystem is about a balance between two things, and it always has been.”

The director also touched on not over-analyzing the audience’s reactions to any particular type of film.

“They’re not realistic about how they watch movies,” he said. “We all watch films with different expectations regarding the type of film. We all go to the cinema, wanting to see something different from what we saw the week before. You have horror films, comedies, documentaries – the cinema screen can be anything. So, the more diversity we have.” The more interesting the films that are made become, the better for all of us as moviegoers and industry professionals.

Nolan’s comments came after a journalist asked him about Martin Scorsese’s comments about “fighting” comic book movie culture.

“It has to come from the filmmakers themselves. And you’ll have, you know, the Safdie brothers, and you’ll have Chris Nolan, you know what I mean? Hit them from all sides,” Scorsese said. GQ In an interview earlier this year. “Hit them from all sides, and don’t give up. Let’s see what happens. Go out there and do that. Go reinvent. Don’t complain about it. But it’s true because we have to save cinema.”
