An action-packed thriller set against the tense backdrop of a hijacking, Yoda promises adrenaline-pumping sequences inside an airplane. It aims to provide a heart-pounding experience similar to classic action movies like Passenger 57 and Olympus Fell.

Arun Katiyal (Siddharth Malhotra), a soldier in the Special Yoda Task Force, is suspended from his job due to a botched mission. The mystery deepens when he is unexpectedly discovered on a hijacked plane. The big question arises: is he a traitor or a patriot? This mystery adds to the suspense of the plot. Directed by Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha, who made their debut with ‘Yoda’, the film is definitely an action-packed film, although it lags a little behind in terms of script. Siddharth Malhotra is donning the military uniform again after his commendable performance in Shershah (2021). Although he wears the uniform with panache, the film falls short of the emotional depth and charm of the Vikram Batra biopic. Nevertheless, Siddharth Malhotra’s presence adds a layer of authenticity to the story. Siddharth is portrayed as a super soldier who does not hesitate to burn his life in the service of his motherland. His entrance scene, pre-interval battle, and climax are all epic scenes that scream his credentials as a bona fide action hero.

The real highlight of Yodha lies in its action set pieces, especially those in an airplane. These sequences are a visual treat and showcase well-choreographed stunts that keep the audience on their toes. But for all the excitement, the script often falters and the direction feels disjointed and childish.

Raashi Khanna shines in her role as a concerned wife and hostage negotiator, bringing depth to her character amidst the chaos. Her portrayal adds a layer of realism to the film’s premise. Moreover, Disha Patani surprises with her action skills and delivers some memorable moments of hers, including an action-packed scene in a saree. But Yoda has always been Siddharth Malhotra’s vehicle. He has the necessary physique to look like a commando and does his best to infuse his portrayal with patriotism. He and Raashii have good chemistry, but their romance seems like it came together in a hurry.

One of the commendable aspects of Yodha is its non-nationalist approach. The film depicts Indian and Pakistani leaders and security forces fighting together in difficult circumstances, emphasizing cooperation over conflict. The patriotism is clear, but it is portrayed in a balanced way, avoiding unnecessary heartthrob.

Check out the smooth battle scenes in the movie. The money shot is when Sidharth Malhotra fights the bad guys as the plane flips in the air and chaos erupts all around. Yodha offers enough thrills to keep action lovers entertained. It’s a blend of intense action, dramatic tension and great performances that makes for a decent masala fare, albeit with a few flaws along the way.
