Bulgarian director Konstantin Boyanov’s film The Shameless was screened in the Uncertain View section at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, and actress Anasuya Sengupta won the Best Actress award for her performance.

In an interview with India Today, Boyanov revealed how Indian film director Anurag Kashyap helped him during the making of the film. Boyanov had to make The Shameless on a very tight budget, but Kashyap was supportive and receptive to his ideas from the beginning. Boyanov stayed at Kashyap’s home in Mumbai and received invaluable assistance through Kashyap’s industry connections.

The two directors first met through a mutual friend in 2013 when they attended a screening of Kashyap’s film “Ugly” in Cannes. They immediately hit it off and forged a long-lasting friendship.

Boyanov described Kashyap as a wonderful friend, supportive, generous and wonderful. When Shameless came to Cannes, Kashyap expressed his joy and pride in a congratulatory message.

Boyanov is an avid follower of Indian cinema, especially independent and parallel cinema. He likes Marathi films like “Kira” and “Newton” and says “Sulaymani Keeda” is entertaining. He says he would like to see the Marathi film “The Disciple.” Boyanov also praised Kashyap’s film “Black Friday,” calling it one of his favorites.
