National award-winning filmmaker Aniruddha Roy Chaudhary’s latest Hindi film ‘Khadak Singh’ has premiered directly on OTT platform ZEE5. Read our full review to find out what we think of the movie.

Story:

AK Srivastava (Pankaj Tripathi), an honest employee of Kolkata’s Department of Financial Crimes (DFC), suffers amnesia while investigating a draft fund scam. In his fragmented memories, he learns from his daughter Sakshi (Sanjana Sanghi), his girlfriend Naina (Jaya Ahsan), his subordinate Arjun (Paresh Pahuja), and the chieftain Tyagi (Dilip Shankar) that he Listen to what happened and put the puzzle together. The film will reveal whether AK will regain his memory, solve the case and reveal the reason why he is called Kadak Singh. Watch the movie to find out the mystery.

Plus points:

Crafted by Virav Sarkari, Ritesh Shah and Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, the story unfolds with intrigue and is deftly brought to life by director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury in the first half.

Pankaj Tripathi gives a satisfying performance, peppering the serious scenes with witty punches and definitely bringing smiles on the faces of the viewers.

Sanjana Sanghi shines and gives a convincing performance that adds great emotional weight. Jaya Ahsan also stood out with her remarkable performance and made her impressive Bollywood debut.

Other actors Dilip Shankar and Paresh Pahuja play their roles satisfactorily.

Minus points:

The premise of an amnesiac patient solving cases through collected stories is promising, but the director fails to execute it, mainly due to issues with the script.

The major flaw is in the second half, when the director loses control of the story. The scenes, especially the climax, fail to create curiosity and instead lead to boredom. Despite the consistent connections, the attempts to inject intensity through the script fall flat.

Another drawback arises from the casting choices as the director fails to utilize the full potential of lead actor Pankaj Tripathi. The decision behind Parvathy Thiruvothu taking on a role that has nothing to do with the story is questionable and leaves these two great actors underutilized.

Another flaw is the background music during tense scenes, which feels inappropriate and leads to viewer separation. It’s shocking to see the musician use the sitar even in tense moments.

Technical aspects:

Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury struggles to leave a lasting impression with both his writing and direction. The first half is well drawn, but the second half fails to maintain momentum.

The music fell short of expectations and did not captivate on various occasions. I’m satisfied with the filming, but the editing in the second half could have been more dynamic.

verdict:

Overall, ‘Khadak Singh’ is a lackluster thriller. Pankaj Tripathi and Sanjana Sanghi gave great performances but some pacing issues especially in his second hour made him get bored for a while. Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s direction and below-average score stand out as further drawbacks of the film. You may want to consider other entertainment options this weekend.
