Odia film producer arrested for ‘assaulting’ female journalist | Indian News

Bhubaneswar police on Saturday arrested Odia film producer Tutu Nayak, aka Sanjay, for allegedly assaulting a woman journalist in the city the previous day.

Nayak was arrested after being detained by police for questioning at a police station in the city. “Based on the statements of the complainant and witnesses and CCTV footage, we found prima facie evidence against the accused. He was therefore arrested and produced before the court,” the police officer said.

Nayak was charged under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (use of obscene language) and 354 (outraging modesty). He was arrested, police officials said.

He was sent to judicial custody after his bail was denied by the local court.

Journalists’ unions in the state condemned the film producer’s actions and lodged complaints against him at various police stations. Members of Odisha Women in Media, a forum for women journalists, also lodged a complaint with Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) seeking a fair investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has also registered a suo motu case in connection with the incident and sought a police report on the steps taken within 15 days.
