Kiran Rao spoke about Baahubali and Kabir Singh.

According to a report in the Times of India, Kiran centered on this topic and talked about how stalking is glorified as wooing women in many Bollywood films. In this, she mentioned the film ‘Kabir Singh’ starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani. Kiran also cited the example of SS Her Rajamouli’s Baahubali to further illustrate her point. She further added, “Another very big movie that I find fascinating is Baahubali: The Beginning. It started with this exciting fight scene, where this woman goes from tree to tree. She is a warrior, but the protagonist subtly strips her of her agency and reduces her to just a great love interest. I find it very fascinating. This is an Indian movie. It’s (one of) the biggest movies of all time.”

Previously, the filmmaker spoke in an interview with Film Companion about how some recent films with very “regressive” messages have been doing well at the box office. She says these events have hurt her and she hopes her big movie will focus on breaking stereotypes and conveying better messages in society.
