Director Atlee, who recently directed the blockbuster film Jawan starring Shah Rukh Khan, expressed his thoughts on the term pan-Indian films and his views on the current scenario.

At an interactive session at the ABP conclave, Atlee was asked why South Indian audiences are not accepting Hindi films and when will this trend change. To this, the director of ‘Jawan’ said it’s not that people in the south don’t watch Hindi films. The filmmaker said he watches all the films of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan. He revealed that “3 Idiots” is one of the biggest hits in Hindi in the South.

According to him, no matter what good content comes, everyone sees it as a professional person in the film fraternity or in the film industry. The filmmaker added that India and unity and diversity are one and all the films that everyone watches are the same as language is just a means of communication and not knowledge.

Atlee described KGF as the biggest hit overall. People in the Hindi film industry don’t know who Yash is, but ever since KGF, Yash has been a superstar in India. He further gave examples of Allu Arjun and ‘Pushpa’, Vijay Thalapathy and other stars. According to him, “We all never want to call it a pan-Indian film or a crossover film. We want to call it an Indian film, an Indian filmmaker.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Atlee is gearing up for his second Bollywood film ‘Baby John’ which stars Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh and Vamiqa Gabi in important roles. Atlee has only produced films directed by Carise. It is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 31, 2024.
