Exclusive: “Directors and producers used to call Amitabh Bachchan ‘that constipated actor'”, says Shekhar Suman, recalls producer kicking him out of studio when film didn’t do well: Bollywood News
“I was listening to interviews with Bachchan saab and he was saying that in the first few years, 13, 14, 15 of his films were flops. And directors, without mentioning his name, would call him ‘that constipated actor’,” he said. He added: “I know this for a fact because Shashi Kapoor told me that later on, he said there were producers who couldn’t work without him and they were like, ‘Oh my God, here comes this constipated looking actor looking for work again. Get him off the set, who let him on set?'”
The actor-turned-producer further added, “When he auditioned for a news anchor position, he was rejected by All India Radio because he had a bad voice. How ironic! They said he didn’t have a good voice and some said he was too tall.”
As the conversation progressed, he recalled a “worst” story Bachchan had told of his struggles: “I was coming out of the studio and getting into a car, my parents were sitting in the back, and a man came and knocked on the window and yelled abuse at me in pure Hindi and said, ‘Who asked you to come here? Have you seen your face? I don’t know where you came from, go back, I don’t know where you came from’, he said. Can you imagine that?”
The actor concluded, “He accepted it all because he had confidence in himself.”
On the work front, Shekhar was recently seen playing a key role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix release, Heeramand: Diamond Bazaar. Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan has the following projects in the pipeline: Kalki 2898.
