Dunki Review: Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani collaboration is a big flop | Movie Review News

Shah Rukh Khan’s Dhanki movie review: “Danki” Shah Rukh Khan Following “Pattern” and “Jawaan”, he will play a soldier again this year, but this time it turns out that he was unlucky. His first collaboration with the vaunted Rajkumar Hirani almost ended in failure.

“Dhunki Marna” is a colloquial expression for illegal immigrants. In the film, Hardy (Shah Rukh Khan), aka Hardyar Singh Dhillon, takes the Laltu trio of Mannu (Taapsee Pannu), Baghu (Vikram Kochhar) and Bali (Anil Grover) to a dangerous police station in Pakistan. It becomes a catalyst for exploring underwater and terrestrial terrain. , Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey before heading to her dream destination of London.

But before that, it’s all about their difficult lives in a fictional village in Punjab and their attempts to untangle British visas through a small agency. Ingrith’s walking and talking problems, acerbic interviews, and rejections should be classic Hirani territory, where he effortlessly creates wonderful fables. But this is clearly a fed-up Hirani who continues to miss the mark throughout ‘Dunki’, acting as a sort of combined version of Mind Your Language and reverse Purab-aur-Paschim.

In the past, Hirani has willingly made us swallow the most unlikely elements. We fell in love with his colorful and charismatic character hook, line, and sinker. The 45-year-old star charmed us as his 20-something student in “The Three Idiots.” The same actor made us believe he could be a googly-eyed alien in PK. Putting medicine entirely aside, Hirani’s magical tricks help deliver a baby and cure the mean personality of an unfriendly hospital director (Munna Bai MBBS). We know what Hirani did there, but we have been in his capable hands.

Most importantly, Hirani has proven to be a great storyteller who is not afraid to dive into emotions. He is similarly unafraid to create scenes that directly tug at our heartstrings. However, I struggled to find anything in Danki’s 161-minute running time that made me feel anything other than simple boredom or irritation. That’s not to say that Shah Rukh’s character Hardy doesn’t appear in almost every scene. Unlike the larger-than-life characters in the two 2023 blockbusters, this one features Zameen Se Judah as the hero, who is good at throwing people over his shoulder. He “akada” than pump out bullets from a fancy machine. He’s also the lively Mannu’s knight in armor, but you get the impression that he’s working too hard for not enough in return, even though there were a few nice little moments between the two. .

Even the money shot in the film where he channels his true self again and declares, “No, I’m not in danger in my own ‘watan'” carries any weight. It passes by without a hitch. After ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’, SRK is once again a patriot who embraces his motherland, warts and all. It must have been a moment that left a lump in his throat. he passed.

The only one who has left an impact is Vicky Kaushal. His short but memorable episodes remind us of the early Hirani that made us laugh and cry. But what about this? It’s not funny, sorry.
