Director Anurag Kashyap labels Bengali films ‘Ghatiya’, calls Hindi films even worse


Anurag Kashyap expresses concern over quality of Bengali and Hindi films

Director Anurag Kashyap has slammed Bengali and Hindi filmmakers for working on substandard projects.

A few days ago, he had attended the Kolkata French Film Festival where a seminar on film prosperity was held.

Sharing his views on recent developments, the filmmaker said Bengali cinema has now become completely ‘ghatiya’.

According to a report by OTT playHe expressed disappointment at the rapid decline in production from the peak of the golden age, when the likes of Satyajit Ray and Ritwick Ghatak produced notable works such as; Father Panchaliand Titash Ekti Nadir Naam.

After that, Anurag went on to blow up his territory which is the Hindi film industry.

He lamented that just like Tollywood, Bollywood too has seen a decline in quality, but Bengali films have not reached the breakthrough point they once did in the first place.

“The decline in the quality of Hindi films is a fall from the ground floor. Bengali films used to have a much higher status. So the decline is very obvious.” no smoking the director said.

Interestingly, fans have complained that Anurag’s own string of filmography has fallen far below the acceptance mark in recent times due to unpopular ventures like; Guhum Ketu, DJ Mohabbat and Almost Pyaarand Kutty.
