Synopsis

Shah Rukh Khan in Danki
Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Danki’. (x)

Danki It starts with Taapsee Pannu as Manu and two other characters (Baghu and Bali). They have lived in London for the past 25 years. Now they want to return to India. But there’s a reason why you can’t do that.

The only man who manages to bring them back to their homeland is Hardyal Singh Dhillon, played by Shah Rukh Khan. So they decide to meet him in Dubai.

Although the trio now yearns to return to their homeland, it was once quite the opposite. All they wanted was to go to London in search of better prospects.

Soon, the story moves back to 1995 and a town in Punjab where Manu and a few others dream of going to London. Everyone is poor because they lack the ability to make a living. Without money or education, it is difficult to get a visa. Hardy, a soldier, joins them.

They all try their best to get a visa. They also attend his 90-day English speaking course run by Gulati (Boman Irani). He is the only one who can pass the IELTS (International English Language Learning Testing System) exam.

What follows is a disappointing and boring journey unlike any Rajkumar Hirani film. Only Shah Rukh Khan keeps you hooked to some degree till the end of the story. Danki reality and its harsh reality.

humor is lost

Apart from the content and on-screen presentation, the biggest strength of Rajkumar Hirani’s films is their great humor laced with irony.

Danki There’s very little humor like that, just a little bit. They simply aren’t good enough or aren’t effective in attracting an audience.

The first half is about the escapades of some good-for-nothing characters who have big dreams of going to London. Even Boman Irani as Gulati has little to offer unlike previous characters in Rajkumar Hirani films.

Shah Rukh Khan tries his best but to little effect.

dangerous route

Danki It’s just an attempt to show the harsh reality of Danki By invoking a bit of national pride through the protagonist, we set an example of Mannu and his friends.

The first half consists of a futile effort to obtain a visa followed by a tragic scenario with a special appearance by Vicky Kausha.

In that case, Danki would be an option. The writers only emphasized the journey but failed to make the audience interested in the journey. If you forget about humor, it will not even evoke a feeling of serious involvement.

Meanwhile, the music by Pritam lacks memory as it is situational and disappears from the system as soon as the song ends. Again, unlike the director’s last venture.

Without good humor, fun, irony, memorable characters, and even music, Danki’s journey would be boring.

Some may wonder if this is a Rajkumar Hirani film.

verdict

Riding on Rajkumar Hirani’s stellar reputation and Shah Rukh Khan’s recent phenomenal success, Danki I’m sorry.

Best of all, it’s severely lacking in the director’s trademark humor, sarcasm, and all that good fun. It also touches on the related social issue of illegal immigration, but ultimately that alone is not enough.

Instead, watch a well-made documentary that depicts the harsh reality of Dhanki.
