Disney Plus Hotstar has produced the film Apurva starring Tara Sutaria in the lead role. Let’s see how the movie goes.

Story:

Apurva (Tara Sutaria) from Gwalior decides to surprise her fiancé Sidharth (Dariya Kalwa) on his birthday. Siddharth is a banker working in Agra. When Apurva is on a bus to Agra, a group of miscreants attack the bus driver just because she didn’t let the bus pass. The miscreants killed the driver and started looting the passengers. Apurva refuses to hand over her mobile phone to them and her goons kidnap her. How she escapes from the villains becomes the crux of the story.

Plus points:

Tara Sutaria is known for her glamorous roles and her stunning performance in Apurva will amaze everyone. Although she played a very challenging role, Tara Sutaria pulled it off expertly. If she makes her rebellion, her audience will definitely cheer her on.

The story of this movie is about a woman who faces unexpected troubles alone. The basic idea of Apurva is very good and in a way, the film is an inspiration for women who bravely fight dangerous battles.

Abhishek Banerjee continues to make an impact. Rajpal Yadav, Sumit Galati and Aaditya collect passes. The movie is only about 90 minutes long, but it moves at a very fast pace.

Minus points:

The main drawback of Apurva is that the film is predictable from the beginning, which shouldn’t be the case for a survival thriller. You can guess the scene from miles away, cutting the excitement in half.

The tension is not maintained throughout, and the characters other than Tara Sutaria lack development. It would have been better if other characters were shown in more detail, as very little is shown about the antagonist.

Darya Kalwa’s role is poorly written and the protagonist’s backstory doesn’t have the impact it should. Apurva also reminds us of her films like NH10 and Highway in some scenes. The VFX in the climax scene is sloppy.

Technical aspects:

Vishal Mishra’s music is amazing. Cinematographer Anshuman Mahaley captures the devastation perfectly. The camera movement during the chase scenes was top notch. The editing is decent and so are the production values.

Director Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt has made some very good choices, but the story lacks the required thrill. Tara Sutaria’s great performance and the central theme are Apurva’s biggest strengths and keep the film going.

verdict:

Overall, Apurva is a well-intentioned survival thriller, but the element of predictability mars it. Tara Sutaria acted to the best of her ability and was a revelation in this survival thriller. More tense moments and a sharper script could have elevated the movie to the next level. Apurva’s theme and short running time make it a decent watch this weekend.
