Attention Spectrum TV customers: Your digital cable box is being upgraded and may be cheaper than your current Spectrum setup.
Spectrum’s primary video device, the Xumo Stream Box, is a joint venture between Charter Communications and Comcast that provides customers with access to live, on-demand or streaming content, Charter Communications announced Wednesday.
“Xumo brings you the live TV experience with all the top apps in simplified streaming,” said Rich DiGeronimo, President of Products and Technology at Charter. How much can I save by switching to a Xumo device?
Xumo devices can be purchased directly for $60 or on a $5/month equipment installment plan for 12 months.
Spectrum’s typical “set-top” cable box costs $10.99 per month (plus cable and internet costs). For example, a customer with two set-top boxes might pay about $22 a month, while a customer with two Xumo boxes might pay about $22 a month. You pay $120 up front for the box itself. There are no monthly fees.
Non-Spectrum customers can get Spectrum Internet for $49.99 per month and get Xumo for free for the first year when you add Spectrum TV.
Here’s how to switch
To purchase a Xumo Stream Box, you must be a Spectrum Internet customer. A current Spectrum video customer can return or exchange his set-top box if he wants to replace it with his Xumo device.
Devices can be purchased at the Spectrum Store, at Spectrum.com, or by calling a Spectrum customer service representative. You can purchase up to 4 devices in a single transaction, with the option to purchase more as needed.
Comcast plans to expand this service to Xfinity customers as well.
